I have been spending much of my time the last few years working on what is next and taking chances with my work as a photographer and printmaker. Now adding letterpress to my practice I feel new ideas swimming along with me as I navigate my work. I continue exploring myself, and look towards the new photographs and objects I want to make. It has not been easy for me in some ways, at the same time I am grateful for the support I have during this journey.
I admire the self-portrait work made by my closest friends and felt like making my own self-portrait as I look out to what is possible. I am struck by the intimacy in making this work.
This will be the 15th year for my annual birthday sale. Each year I have offered prints from my catalog for the price of my birthday in years, the price has slowly increased to $ 65.00.
In this past year I have embraced letterpress printing & book arts and I've incorporated these skills with my photogravure work. Learning new crafts has been deeply invigorating and I am thrilled to be following my first limited edition book Still + Life with this limited edition broadside.

About the Finding beauty broadside
This is the first edition of broadsides from Cascabel Press, Ray Bidegain printmaker. It marks the occasion of the makers 65th birthday and is in an edition of 65 prints. The photograph is printed photogravure and the text letterpress. The design and typography are the work of Emogene Bidegain.
Broadsides will ship at the end of October 2024 when I return from Prague.

One Photographers Journey
For the last 22 years I have been lucky enough to spend my time working as a fine art photographer, and specifically working as a photographer who photographed using large format negatives and made platinum prints from the camera negatives.
The platinum period
Many of you have collected these platinum prints over the years and some of you have learned platinum printing from me along the way. I love the process and I have loved every minute of this period in my work. Platinum printing is an amazing and beautiful way to make photographs.
The Gravures
For the last five years I have started working on making photogravure prints, polymer plate photogravure prints, to be specific. I worked on it, decided I wanted to make a change and make a commitment to working as a printmaker making photogravure prints. You all know me as a person who likes handmade photography. Handmade objects are at the heart of my photographic journey and printmaking is all of that, and more.
