Printing in the wet darkroom with Ray Bidegain | private training

Printing gelatin silver prints in a wet darkroom can be a beautiful and rewarding process for artists choosing to use film cameras. The prints look and feel different from what comes from scanning film and inkjet printers.

If you are just starting to work with 35mm film, or have been using it for years without leaning to work in the darkroom this workshop will be very satisfying. I promise.

This workshop is limited to photographers working with 35mm black & white film as I have an enlarger dedicated to 35mm. I have planned the workshop to be a combination of workshop training with mentoring while you work on your prints in my darkroom to practice your new skills.

A sample timeline might look like this:

One 6 hour session covering film processing and the basics of printing, you will develop rolls of film and make some prints of a few negatives.

You will have access to the Cascabel Press darkroom for 3 additional 3-hour sessions with mentoring as needed with Ray Bidegain.

Topics to be covered with include:

  • Film development.
  • making a contact sheet.
  • choosing and making enlargements from your negatives.
  • fine tuning your prints for contrast and density.
  • Adjusting film development to adjust the quality of your prints.

All materials will be supplied for the first session, student will supply their own paper for the mentoring sessions.

Once you have registered for the workshop and paid the fees we can sort out a time to work together.
