When I was young I made self-portraits out of frustration from not having people to model for me. More recently, in my As We Get Older series, I’ve made them as more of a conceptual reflection. Historically, the theme of self-portraiture has been an important genre for most artists. Self-portraits are a way to document times and feelings in a personal way. They can help you explore and express your reflections on yourself in relation to the world around you. In this period of social distancing, when you don’t have a lot of access to other subjects, this might be a good time to take some self-portraits.
