Today, Tuesday, has been my first long day in Prague, and I am thrilled to be here making new work for my next edition of handmade books. After all day Sunday and most of Monday sitting on a plane, I am grateful to still be able to walk.... As we get older the travel part of traveling gets to be a thing.
Walking around Prague I find myself drawn to the history and beautiful architecture. Much like when I was making pictures in France, I strive to respond to what is in front of me honestly and with a fresh experience in mind. I keep telling myself there is only so many photographs of facades to be made, then I say, “well you brought 60 rolls of film & WHY NOT take them all”.
I thrive on making pictures in places that are new to me. Although I spend my time at home saying that I can make a good picture anywhere, being in a place like Prague makes it way easier. A good friend said to me “it feels sexy, dark and brooding there” and I totally agree.
I am curious to know how those of you who like to make pictures in new places go about making a fresh approach from your heart and leave some of your past work behind? Write a few lines and join the conversation if you have a minute.
Be well,
Ray
