Sketchbook | A limited edition of hand made books

Cascabel Press is excited to announce a new edition of hand-made books.

Sketchbook

An Artist's Journey

This is the Fifth edition of books by Ray Bidegain under the imprint Cascabel Press. I have become completely immersed in the process of making hand-made books; every step is a challenge and a joy, and the finished edition is the reward. With each new project, I strive to add and refine design and printing elements as I find my groove in the world of the book arts.

This new edition of books will tell the story of my creative path and ever-evolving artistic focus over the past 25 years.

With the same steady hand and decades of experience in one medium, I find myself hesitating with nerves and uncertainty in another.  Brought together through poignant stories, these three groups of work show how I return, continually, to the start.  The novelty of a fresh process engages me repeatedly and feeds my creative soul.

One Photographers Journey

For the last 22 years I have been lucky enough to spend my time working as a fine art photographer, and specifically working as a photographer who photographed using large format negatives and made platinum prints from the camera negatives.

The platinum period

Many of you have collected these platinum prints over the years and some of you have learned platinum printing from me along the way. I love the process and I have loved every minute of this period in my work. Platinum printing is an amazing and beautiful way to make photographs.

The Gravures

For the last five years I have started working on making photogravure prints, polymer plate photogravure prints, to be specific. I worked on it, decided I wanted to make a change and make a commitment to working as a printmaker making photogravure prints. You all know me as a person who likes handmade photography. Handmade objects are at the heart of my photographic journey and printmaking is all of that, and more.
